On July 21st 2008, an article about research in the Centre for Marine Science and Technology (CMST) in the Department of Applied Physics was published in Science. The research in question looks at small cracks in Antarctic ice, in particular how the sound of the cracking is carried through ice and water. The more we know about how the sound is carried, the better we can track where cracks are occurring.
